    Snake staying on cool side

Ok just wondering if I'm the only one with this issue... she's about 4 months old and almost always stays in her cool side hide....
Her hot side is 89-90 cool side 80. It does drop a few degrees at night. She eats fine, she just shed fine (she had a tiny bit stuck on the top of her head, but wiped off with a warm cloth)

Could the hot side be too hot for her?
Thanks in advance for any input..

    Snake staying on cool side

mine does the same thing. she is usually on her cool side in the daytime. I'm assuming it gets too hot in her other hide during the day but I've Blacked out her whole tank so she is fine. it is weird though because I've read stories where snakes have no idea how to regulate their own body temperature and always burn themselves and mine seems to be almost too good at it... haha. guess we got smarties

Usually the burns are the result of the snake having to choose between being too cold or too hot. I mean a cage that has an ambient temp of like 70F and a hot rock or heat pad of 120F. They will usually choose to be too hot and get burned in the process.

To the OP, your temp on the hot side might not be what you think. If you're using a stick on type thermometer, especially. These are never accurate. A good temp gun or digital thermometer is much better.

Another thing to note is that hatchlings and babies tend to like slightly cooler hotspots than adults. Mine seem to favor 87-88 and tend to go off feed above 91.

But other than that, not a huge issue. Your snake sounds fine.

I just found out my bp isn't using his warm hide because the surface temperature was 108. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked it with the heat gun. The ambient temperature is fine.

I unplugged the UTH and am checking the thermostat.
