Question about feeding females to get them to breeding size
How often should I feed my female ball pythons so they can get the most efficient growth rate? Sorry I know that sounds like a noob question but just curios because I've fed my girls steadily for the passed years but I've heard others say they get their girls to the 1000 gram mark in a year which to me is insane. Thanks for the help

Feed correctly sized food evey 3-5 days for the first 1.5 years and then once every 7-10 days after that and she will be up to breeding size in no time.

If you're feeding adult females 2 rat pups a week, they're gonna be sloooooow growers...

Oh no the picture in my avatar is my female lesser whos about a month or two old I dont remember the exact hatch date. She eats rat pups. But my adult normal female she eats medium rats even though they are a little large she digests them in about a week or so. So really my question was about feeding well started females between the 100-250 gram range.

1.5 years seems like a while to have them on a 3 day feeding schedule. I do 15% of body weight every 3 days up to 300 grams (usually about 4-5 months old) and 5 days up to 800 (usually about a year or so old). Then 7 days. My girls usually hit 1500 grams by two years if they are consistent eaters.
My boys I switch to 10 days or so after they hit 1100-1200 grams.

I'm going to pass along some wisdom that the "Evil Morph god" told me once when I asked how he got his snakes to grow so fast. His answer was thus, "Feed to see a lump".

I feed hatchlings to about 200g rat pups. Then for the rest of their life they get smalls. Once every 7 days. I feed building and recently laid girls 2 rats for a couple months. Slow and steady for me.

I feed once a week always. Feeding every 3 days, wow, thats a lot overkill. Hatchlings do not digest in 3 days.
Feed a hatchling and wait to see how long till it poos. 3 days, lol, no way!

Agreed every 5 days seems to be a better point for me. I've seen animals (hatchlings) being more aggressive feeder feeding them at 5 days than sooner or later. That seems to be the point that they are looking for another feed. 3 days is way to soon for me to feed my babies consistently at lease
