Thermostat probe placement questions

I know this question is asked a lot, and I have read through the threads, but I feel like I get such conflicting information. My main concern with taping it to the UTH under the tank (I can't sandwich it, the UTH is already on), is when the room gets cool, as it definitely can in our cold Canadian winters (can drop to ~65F at night), it might make the probe think the UTH is colder than it is, and crank the heat. Since the tank will be heated by a lamp, I'm worried that the actual temp on the hot side will be much hotter. I do have a thermometer probe in the substrate under the warm hide, and can adjust for that, but if the room is fluctuating then wouldn't I be constantly adjusting?? Instead, I was thinking of hot gluing a small tube (like the kind glow bracelets come in) up the side of the tank and running the wires through it, so there are now dangling wires to get yanked, and also hot gluing the probe under the paper towel (I have paper towel over the warm side, as well as aspen bedding throughout). It seems to me that I wouldn't have to worry about room temp fluctuations this way, and it would be pretty safe?

I just feel like if I'm going to have to be constantly adjusting for room temps anyway, why didn't I just buy a dimmer for $20 less?

If you tape on the outside, do fluctuating temps cause a problem for you?

Take aquarium tubing, cut it into a small 2" section. Hot glue it to the inside bottom of your enclosure. Glue it on well! Do not glue the probe down, as you will need to remove it for cleaning.

Then just insert your probe into the tubing.

Oh that's a great idea, I'll make sure to figure out a way to keep it from pulling out, maybe putting a clip or something near the top just before it comes out of the small hole in my lid. I think I have some aquarium tubing in the garage, off to look

You can still sandwich it between the glass and the pad. Simply carefully remove the pad, take off all remaining sticky <the stuff is a pain anyway>, tape the probe <on the wire not the probe itself>to the tank. Then use foil tape or duct tape and tape the pad back to the tank.
