Is the idea to breed them with a normal to see what you can actually get from the possible gene they carry?

I think it's a really cool idea and if you're that selective about choosing which ones to import, it seems like you have a good chance at getting something really neat

    Re: Major League Prospects?

In keeping with the baseball theme, I struck out with both of the below "dinkers". There used to be a much bigger selection of dinkers...several bigger breeders would post up hundreds of dinker imports on their websites every season with fairly reasonable prices. For a couple hundred bucks you could gamble on hitting something big. I've looked through Brant's prospects and he has lots of cool stuff. I don't remember prices but I doubt he's having to back up the money truck...it takes a lot of time and effort to do what he does and I applaud him for it...and it appears he has a pretty good eye, so his dinkers may even warrant a premium...

(The snakes below were not from Brant...they were bought and bred several years ago)

Melty, harlequin type girl...resulted in diddly squat...none of her looks were passed on...

Same deal with this girl...absolutely no influence on her babies...they were as normal as normal gets...

I really need to dedicate a slot in my rack to a new dinker project...
    Lucifer Sam, Siam cat...
    Always sitting by your side,
    Always by your side...
    That cat's something I can't explain...

I would not mind getting my hand on some or one of them for fun someday when I have the funds of course. Especially now that I know ppl at MLR stand behind them the way they do! Would LOVE to see or hear of anyone who's proved out any of MLR's prospects.

Hm glad I saw this, now I have imports to look at for when I "ball up" enough to gamble, so to speak. Question, and forgive my instinctive suspicion: I know you sift through them and spend a lot of time picking them out and such, but I have to ask, if you can pick out a special genetic, why not keep them for yourself and manufacture all this new stuff?

Oh, also, I know you've had a lot proven out, can you give me a name of a specific morph that has come from your imports? I'd love to look at a few

I imagine because he doesn't have the space or the time to raise up every single one and try to prove them all out. I'm sure there are some he keeps for himself.

Exactly. I have almost 1000 ball pythons here and I work by myself and have no employees. I literally have more projects than I'll ever need in my lifetime already. Prospects give others an opportunity to possibly prove something new, have fresh blood, and just having something in your incubator that can really be unexpected and exciting. I really can't explain how much fun it has been for me to hatch stuff that is completely unknown. Again, I definitely have enough that I don't feel obligated to keep them, however, I don't have to give them away either.

I understand financial risks are not for everyone. For me, the excitement has been worth the costs for me. You must remember, this isn't free for me either. These animals just don't arrive on my front porch. I invest in these like my own customers do and have a tremendous amount of expenses with my collection. Fact is, I haven't really released any new projects to even make money from it. I'm patiently working things out, just as anyone else would. The fun and excitement is all worth it to me, and I'm confident it will pay off for me, like my own customers.

    Major League Prospects?

Just wanted to chime in and say the whole 'prospects' thing is awesome! It gives the little guys a chance to get in on something potentially huge, and from the snakes I've been creeping on, the prices seem very reasonable, all things considered. I know I can't drop 40k on a brand spankin new morph, but for a couple hundred I can try and prove one out? Heck yes! Then again, I've always been a sucker for those mystery grab bags

MLR, I hope you continue with your prospects venture, because you can bet your sweet butt I'll be getting one in a few years.

With any dinkin around project, your biggest investment is going to be time. I've played around with a few interesting normals that I thought might prove to be something hereditary. It hasn't worked out so far but it's always fun to have one or two projects going in the background. I guess if I came across an interesting looking animal that I had a good feeling about, the price wouldn't be that big of a deal. (unless of course it was a real ridiculous amount like thousands of dollars)
