Best size tank for my ball python

I just bought a pastel bp and haven't gotten a perfect measure on him yet but he is just over 3 ft I believe. He is five years old. I only have a 24x12x12 tank right now and I know it is way to small. What size would be the best for him? I want him to be able to reach his full length and have room to stretch out. About the best thing I have found so far at our local pet stores is a 30x12x12. I really do not want to buy this tank because I think he will still be a little crowded.

If that male is 5 years old then he is just about done growing or his growth will have already slowed to the point where you wouldn't notice any increase from year to year. I would go with a 40 gallon with sliding screen top. It's 36X18X16" and an adult ball python can live happily it's whole adult life in one.

Either that or the really nice Exo-Terra 36X18X12. I recommend this one. It's expensive but very nice and easy to maintain temp/humidity.
Both available at Petsmart. Independent stores can get them too. You just have to ask.

Check out animalplastics.com terrestrial encloures. The t8 is used by many people on here and is a good choice because it is completely enclosed other than the glass sliding door. It will also hold humidity much better than a screen top and will provide good security
