We're running out of time so I am posting to give this thread a bump and get a few frustrations out:
Lacey DOES NOT make it illegal to own, breed, or even sell...just as long as it's done in your own state. You just wouldn't be able to sell or move them across state lines. My 2013 Burmese hatchling is a prime example. Burmese Pythons are already on the list, but I was able to buy and bring home a 2013 Burmese Python hatchling that I purchased from a breeder IN my state.
If added to Lacey, it simply means that the USFWS see these as an active invasive species currently AND capable of adversly affecting the ecosystems across the nation...though we all know this is ONLY possible in extreme Southern Florida. Their own cold weather tests, where they relocated a couple of Burmese Pythons to South Carolina, resulted in them dying in the first cold snap. It's absolutely rediculous!
These are OUR dogs and cats. These are members of our family and for some a business. If WE don't contact our reps and contact USFWS directly and voice our opposition, no one will. This IS OUR responsibility.
Even if you don't own Burms, Retics, Anacondas, African Rock Pythons, or Boas...if the USFWS is allowed to just add species willy-nilly with total disregard to facts and real science...other snakes and herps are sure to come. This is an entire community issue that everyone needs to step up and voice their opposition.
