Feeder size and quantities for male hognose?

    Hi again everyone,

I've arranged to purchase a young male hog from a breeder and will be picking him up at the show this Saturday. I will be purchasing my frozen feeders at the show and am hoping to buy enough to last me ~ 6 months.

Here's what I'm planning on buying at the moment:
50 regular pinkies, 25 peach fuzzies, and 25 fuzzies

Do you think this will give me close to the amount he'll need or is it overkill? If they will keep for a long time, I guess having more than 6 months worth is ok.

Also, do you think including the fuzzies / peach fuzzies is a good idea? I planned on that because I assumed he might need to go up in size within 6 months, but I have zero experience, so I welcome opinions on this (it would be cheaper to get 100 pinkies if he doesn't need the size difference).

Thanks for your time and help!

Sounds like a really good base. Can you get his weight from the breeder? I think is really hard to gauge what you'll need with hognose, since there's not a ton of info like with balls

. We have two babies, but one had about 20 grams on the other one when we got them. My littlest has only gained 3 grams in 2 months, so she's still on mouse pinks. She's also a picky eater. Now my big boy has already gone up to rat pinks, which are currently the perfect size for him. He also eats any 'leftovers' that she refuses. He's my little garbage disposal

Hopefully your little one will have a big appetite. You could always feed two pinkies per feeding if you find that he's growing faster than expected. How often we're you planning on feeding?

I will try to message the breeder about his weight. I will see them at the show on Saturday, so they may have some advice as well.

I was planning on feeding every 5 days to start since this was the most commonly recommended (according to care sheets I found). I also read that feeding 2 smaller meals was preferable to 1 larger one.. There's so little info out there though to base this on.

    Thanks for your advice!
