Sand Boa - Care Info please

I'm interested in learning about the Sand Boa. Husbandry, color morphs, breeding etc. Can anyone point me to some good sources please???

There are quite a few color and pattern morphs out there, some genetic, some just hereditary through selective breeding. Care is pretty simple and they are tough little animals so you don't have to worry about needing exact temps or special humidity requirements. A hot spot of 90-95, sani chip or shredded aspen bedding is usually best...even though "sand" is in their name, I would stay away from it as it can cause impaction problems. They aren't known for being picky feeders and most usually will take live or f/t without much trouble. Females do get much larger than males, males are also more likely to go off feeding during the winter months although they will often still take rat pinkys...although almost none of mine will touch asf's. Giving them a hide box with a damp paper towel or moss during shed cycles is also helpful to keep them shedding nicely.

I love my sand boas. I have a male normal and female snow with a nub tail. There very easy. I have a 10 gallon tank with a 5 gallon heat pad and keeps the hot spot perfect. My fiance loves them but hates my ball pythons. I'm a firefighter and am at work for 24 hours and she takes them out of there tank when I'm at work all the time. There very docile. Sandboamorphs.com has a book on them and its very useful. They also sell sand boas too.

If you're on facebook, look up two groups, sand boa keepers and sand boas anonymous... you'll find the best of the best in those two groups when it comes to sand boas in the quality of animals and with respectable, knowledgeable breeders, some of them having been working with sand boas back to the early nineties and beyond. Those groups are like a "who's who" of the sand boa world and some very nice and helpful people. They are also probably about the best places to see morphs and what's going on with what new stuff is around or on the way.
