Various egg temps?
I checked my eggs last night, and used the IR gun (reptile basics 412L) on the actual eggs at an 8-12 inch range. Surface temps of individual eggs varied from 87.5 to 89.9, I'm incubating in a Natures Spirit with Herpstat set to 89.0 and a LOT of water bottles, temps have been super stable. Is that a normal temp spread for actual eggs (am at day 33 if that's relevant)? Does it mean anything? Thanks!

88-89 is the perfect temp for eggs.

Yes, which is why I have the incubator set to 89. But I'm surprised to see the temps of the actual eggs themselves varying so much. One's nearly 90, but the egg next to it is 2.5 degrees cooler, just seems odd.

I would almost be willing to attribute that small swing in perceived temp to the IR gun. Being accurate within 1.25 degrees is still pretty good for a mid level IR gun.

Could be something about the temp gun, could be the eggs themselves.
Eggs increase in temperature late in incubation. The fetus reaches a point where it starts generating its own heat -- it's most noticeable in the last week or so. As someone who really, really likes recording things, I've noticed that the eggs, though, beginning to get minutely warmer around Day 30-35. Like, fractions of degrees, but enough to be measurable.
So, could be that, could be the equipment. When in doubt, never hurts to note it

Fair enough, I'll make a note but not worry. Thanks guys!
