Temp Spike in Incubator

Well, as much as I tried to guard against it, we had a spike today. My incubator is made from a wine cooler and there is a light that comes on when the door is opened, but it can also be activated with a separate switch. I was not home and we had family come in and my daughter turned on the light so they could see the eggs in the box and forgot to turn it off. I could have done the same just as easy. Apparently that bulb throws a little heat because when I came home and checked the incubator, the light was still on and the temp was 94. The whole timeline was probably a span of not more than four hours and I am certain it took some time for the temps to climb to that point.
I have read other threads regarding spikes but many have had a more dramatic swing or duration. Has anyone experienced a similar spike in temp and duration, and what was the impact, if any? BTW, today is day 12 so we are pretty early in to this. Appreciate any responses.

I had an incubation spike. It went up to 95, for some reason. I just about had a heart attack. It wasn't for that long, a few hours.

All babies hatched just fine.

I'm not able to remember what day it happened but it was about half way through incubation.

That sounds very similar. Thank you for the quick response. Yeah I was pretty shocked when I saw the number on the thermometer. I opened up the incubator and the tub to drop the temps back down. I am just going to have to be diligent about the light or perhaps remove the bulb all together after this clutch goes. Glad to hear yours were fine.

what temp are you incubating at? and where are you getting the temps from? if you are running close to 90 incubating and your temp probe is reading the temps in the incubator and not the egg tub. the incubator is going to heat up much faster than the egg tub. so the temps in the egg tub might not of been as high for that short of time. I think you should be ok. good luck don

I am incubating at 89 in the interior of the egg box. I am using a accurite with the lead in the egg box and the body sitting on top the box along with the thermostat probe. Both temps were reading 94 so it had gone long enough to stabilize the temp inside to the outside. I am hopeful it wont have an effect but nature can be a fickled gal. I appreciate your response.

Replace that incandescent light bulb with an LED bulb. Incandescents operate at over 300*F, LED's in the 80-100*F range depending on brand.

That's a great idea. I still would like to use the bulb but don't want that to happen again. Thanks

outside lighting has a timer where the light will only stay on for a certain amount of time. most of these also use the eye for movement. go to lowes or home depot and see if they make a switch without the eye. if not get some of these parts and build one. good luck don
