Sexing The Babies: The Hardest Part So Far

So, BP, our first clutch is about a week out of the egg now, and all of the babies have shed out and have been moved to their new tubs. So we decided we should try our hand at sexing them. My fiancee is a great popper, but for some reason, just can't manage to get it down with these guys. We also ordered a probe kit, for a more "definite" id, but that just gave us more questions than answers. First I probed them on my own and determined 3 females, 2 males. I told my fiancee we should pop them again and he should try probing them just to be sure. He had the same issues popping, and when we probed the second time, they all probed to about the same depth, which didn't really help things. I even probed a couple of my older snakes to get a feel for it and still no dice.
I've watched all the videos and read all the techniques, I just don't get it. Are they really all one sex, or is something not going right?

More importantly, anyone in the Philadelphia/West Chester area that could maybe help us with this problem in person?

What sex are you getting? Popping hatchlings is super easy, pretty much if you see any red nubs it's a boy. I've had small clutches that were are the same sex, so that's not unheard of.

If they are males you should be able to get the hemipienes out with ease.

I wish I could show you in person!

I can't pop at all and I rely on probing.

How many scales are you probing? Have you tried probing on both sides of the vent? Have you watched my video? http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...r-snake!-Video!

Oh yeah, her video is amazing! I highly recommend it. I can't pop, so I probe

You should really get someone to help you learn to pop. It really is easy with hatchlings.. One little hint, I've noticed, is to pull a bit upward from the vent--toward the head--hmmm...tougher to describe than I thought...lol. Anyway, good luck on finding someone to help show you. Congrats on babies!
Lots of BPs, and still not enough!

See...the problem with me is that I can't find ANYONE in my area that pops. I'd love to learn how! I can pop my corn snakes just fine with near perfect accuracy...but the ball pythons? That's a whole other issue xD

Sometimes I pop my hatchlings and the only thing I see are small red nodules and not the long hemipenes. Does this mean it's a male?

I probably am accidentally pressing/ rolling too close to the cloaca (watched some popping videos again a few minutes ago). Will have to check my hatchlings some more

Most likely yes. If I see the red nubs, that's usually enough for me to call it a male, unless I'm selling it. If you are really questioning it, you just have to squeeze a little harder and you should get a least one out. Sometimes it's easier to get one side out than the other. Just keep trying.

I literally made this video about an hour ago when I read your post (ignore the end, I've never put the fancy stuff on a video before, lol)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUwCI_xjaIk I watched tons of videos on popping and just couldn't get it. Then I found Brian Gundy's video and it really helped me out. Great Video Slither. I meant to post this earlier today but I was at work and couldn't haha.
