Revamping CL buy

picked this up for 70 bucks off of CL. it was 100, but the guy broke the glass when he was moving it. dimensions are 60 x 18 x 18". gonna be the new permanent home for my blood

He had all the wiring going through a hole covered in duct tape on both sides. cleaned, sanded, calked and glued PVC tubing on


Placed the order for the glass doors yesterday and picked it up after work today. 43 bucks for the glass and knobs/handles

The glass broke because the bottom track came loose and took the glass with it. went ahead and glued it on, and tacked trim nails into the track.


i'll be adding photos more as i progress throughout the "reconstruction". until then, enjoy picture of some hatchlings fresh out of the eggs

so heres what the stand looked like when i bought it. had some support for the enclosure, but it also made it sit almost inside the stand because he used 2x4s. i also filled in all the holes inside and out of the enclosure, and sanded the inside



decided instead of going out and buying plyword, id use some scrap 2x4s, turn em sideways, and make the enclosure flush with the top of the stand while still holding a frame around it





so after i was happy with how it was sitting, i removed the glass, placed them in a very safe spot (under my bed) so that they wouldnt get broken again, and masked for painting



started to paint then took a picture. OH, and i calked all of the bottom corners and edges, up to the glass in the front, and up to the top in the back



here is the paint i used. Just over 2 cans. had to use a 3rd, but youd still think that can was 100% full.



painted, and masking taken off. about 2 coats completely coated the inside. no bare spots what-so-ever. i also taped off up to where the glass
would be touching the sides and will be placing a thin rubber strip on both sides to stop the door, and hide the transition of interior/exterior colors (hunter green/white)





tomorrow after work i will be using NeverWet from Rustoleum to essentially waterproof the entire cage. this stuff looks incredible and im hoping it works as advertised

With some time and effort a refurbished PVC cage you got off CL cost you less than $150(estimated)? Bought brand new would probably cost $200-$300+
Not including the stand.

Naa. Hes going to put a blood in there. The lil baby "spinnerettes" are just for our momentary viewing pleasure

Exactly. And thts what i was trying to avoid. The huge cost of an already built cage. Now everytjing is exacrly as i want it for less. O, and now theres spinner triplets. Lol
