How fresh does a fecal sample need to be for the vet? Do I refrigerate or anything - or just put in a baggie?

If I remember correctly, within 24 hours is best...but not always feasible. If it's gonna be more than 24 hours, then put it in the fridge. (Yum! LOL) If I'm mistaken, I'm sure someone will set us both straight!

A sample can be most accurately analyzed if it is no older than 24 hours. Always refridgerate the sample too.

But no freezing, as it affects the quality of the sample and accuracy of the results.

My words exactly!
Best if fresh. I am the facel sample queen!!! that's what my vet calls me, as she loves the fact that my husband and I are both techs and can just bring em in and read them ourselves. Definatly makes her days easier..lol
Thanks

Thanks everyone! My new Mexican Black King has his first checkup Friday....I'll make sure he understands he has to do a #2 for me Thursday - we'll see how well he listens. LOL.
Seriously, thanks everyone!

I just called the vet today about bringing in Ozzy's sample and Dr. Stahl told me to keep it just in a moist paper towel and try to bring it in as soon as I could but no fridge just the paper towel

When it was time to take my BP to the vet, he hadn't gone for me yet, so the vet 'encouraged' him to give her a sample so she could complete her exam.
