Bitting Buttons

It's me again. We feed buttons yesterday (2 mice) and decided to try to handel him for a few minutes today. My wife makes me use leather gloves since last time we were bitten. He was fine when we had him out, until I went to set him back in the cage, and he struck at my son (the 2 year old that names him). He did not get him, but scared him pretty bad. Does button need more time to relax in his new enclosure, or do you think his bitting is a sign of something else??

Let it digest the food, then work on handling it. Some babies are a bit nippy, but they grow outta it. Monty struck at my face the first day, lol.

I'd wait at least 48 hours after feeding before handling. Maybe that will help.

And Buttons may not have been handled much before now, leading him to be extra fearful of it as well. If it gets to the point where you're ready to give up, try offering to trade Buttons with someone else for a non-nippy bp and you might be successful.

Like Tigergenesis said....wait at least 48 hours after feeding before you handle. And then start with short sessions that gradually get longer as the snake relaxes. And you might want to keep the 2 year old out of the room during these handling sessions until the snake gets a LOT more comfortable with you and you get to know its "moods" a little better. There's plenty of time to teach the little one how to appreciate snakes once you and the animal have gotten to know each other.
