I was happy they finally announced this. I've had so many (pointless) arguments with my sony-fan friends. It'll be very interesting to see what happens to sales. I know a lot of people in person who said the only reason they would chose ps4 was because of the used-game situation. A lot of them also gave me grief because I chose to pre-order 3 of the day one consoles. In my mind, there are bound to be geeks out there who will pay more for them or who don't want to stand in line on launch day.
For me personally, I can see how it would have been an inconvenience to connect to the internet but I was really confused why there was so much bashing of this ONLINE. People seemed so upset about having to connect to the internet and would post about how it was a bad idea via iphone/facebook/reddit/etc.
The game thing was a bummer but I honestly did not think it would stick. Especially after sonys press conference. If I understood things correctly; sony can say what ever they want about used games but unless they publish or develop it they really don't have the final say. Look at EA, you have to buy the game plus an online pass if you get it used and want to use the online benefits. For the longest time I thought EA was a bunch of crap. I'd still play their games of course but it would make me a little peeved.
Now I've started to realize that (IMO) the developers and publishers should get something back. There was a period of time (few years ago) where I would take advantage of gamestops "return" policy. I would go get a used game, play the crap out of it, then return it within 7 days and get my money back. The only games I would really keep were games like COD, BF, Borderlands, etc. Or I would take advantage of XBLs sales on the dashboard and I would get it for free or let a friend recover my GT and get it for free. Now that I am older and wiser, I have no issues with online passes or buying a game new if need be.
I know I will never persuade anyone who has already made up their mind. Eventually I will more than likely get a ps4. For me, it was a no brianer. Even if they kept things how they were originally. Xbox one offers me more things. I am into sports, being able to track and follow everything was a HUGE bonus. As well as transitioning between TV/games/whatever. Video chat, another great feature for me. I won't have to use my computer all the time. But, sony does seem to have the upper hand as far as graphics go.
