Killer clown project....how should I go about it?
Sooo, I was perusing WOB looking for my next project(after my super pewter project)..and I want something totally different in our collection. Ive always admired clowns, and they are def different than the other morphs we currently have. When I came across the pic of the killer clown, I thought..THAT. that's it! And I also remember discussing going halfers on a clown project with a friend of mine while at the bar one night. Which brings me to my original question...clowns can be pretty pricey, and combos are even pricier! I don't have the kinda coin to drop into a snake that some of you other guys do, so Im trying to figure out the best way to go about eventually producing one. Should I: 1. invest in a pair of super pastel 100% het clowns(pretty pricey)? 2. invest in a just female clown, and later breed her to our lemon blast, which would be a many year project....(but wed have a clown in our collection)? 3. invest in a pair of 100% het clown pastels(cheaper, but longer project)? Im probably going to have $500-$800 to invest into the animal(s). This is thinking out loud, and waaay into the future cuz id have to wait until next seasons tax return time to purchase said snake(s). Plus I don't know how much my friend would have to spend...that's a piece to consider too. Your thoughts and suggestions are more than welcome whether I like them or not

I'd go with a pair of pastel 100% het clowns. You'd have a shot at a Killer Clown in a couple years and I bet you could get a pair for a grand or less. Casey Lazik produces some incredible clown and het clown stuff. Not totally sure what he's up to this year, but last year he had some killer stuff. Ranging from $400-600 for really clean pastel 100% het clowns to $25000 Pastel Enchi Clowns lol

Re: Killer clown project....how should I go about it?
go with 2 female pastel 100% het clowns. then when they are close to breeding size pickup a male clown or pastel clown depending on the price. that way what ever you produce will be 100% het. and if you already have the females at size, it makes a whole lot more sense to drop money on a better male being you will get the return sooner. if you only get a clown male, you have a good chance to produce a visual pastel clown male. hold him back and breed him back to the 2 females pastel het clowns to produce your killer. plus if you change your mind on the project, you shouldn't lose money on a female that grown in size. hope this helps don

i would have to agree with don thats sounds like the best way to go and will help you get that killer clown in a couple of years instead of many years

Re: Killer clown project....how should I go about it?
I got my female pastel Het clown for $1200 last year.
The lowest I've seen this year was around $750-800 for a low quality female. Female clowns in the 1k+ area....
I would continue to save up for a pair of pastel Het clowns. Your budget seems a little on the low side unless you want a male pastel het clown and normal het clown female

I think based on your budget you might be a little tight but what I would do would be to buy a female Pastel Het Clown this season and wait a year before buy a male, that will allow you to save the extra money needed and give time to your female to do a little growing.

I agree with Don, go with a pastel het clown girl now, get her to size and save the cash for a male.

I bought a male pastel het clown a female het clown and a female pastel 50% possible het clown, who proved out last year. The two original females are ready to drop this year. Last year i held back a female clown a female super pastel 66% het clown and two female pastel 66% het for next year hopefully.

Re: Killer clown project....how should I go about it?
I kind of like Don's suggestion. If you and I each picked out a pastel 100% het clown female, then next year we pick up a clown male or a pastel clown male to share, we'll have better odds right out the gate. If we got the male visual this year it would be entirely too tempting for me to throw all my other plans out the window and pair him to all my females. Grr Clown why do you have to be so pretty!? D:
