    Egg question

I put a clutch in the incubator last Saturday and yesterday I noticed a little dimpling on the eggs, I have plenty of water in the tub and the eggs are on a diffuser grate. Is a little dimpling normal at this stage? Also when should I candle the eggs I'm scared to take them out of the Incubator.

They can dimple a little bit; just make sure they don't continue to dimple. At this stage they should still be pretty firm, like an over filled water balloon.

IMHO, if you're not comfortable, leave them. Candling them isn't a requirement.

You might want to throw some Press 'N Seal between the lid and tub itself, especially if they continue to dimple. I found that the cheap 6qt. tubs are horrible at holding humidity, but any of the locking lid tubs were fine without the extra layer (and I don't put holes in the tubs).

I put the tops on my tubs. It keeps the fan from blowing on the eggs and drying them out. Make sure that there is not too much air movement inside the incubator. Good luck!

    Re: Egg question

I bought some press and seal but Im afraid if I take the eggs out of the incubator I'll mess them up. How long can you take week old eggs for candeling and applying press and seal?

The eggs will be fine for the few minutes it takes to candle them and do the press and seal thing...

edit: check out the video in this thread... http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...s-Up-Egg-Boxes

Video is 15 minutes long and talks about how Kevin sets up his egg boxes...the eggs are just chilling the whole time...no sweat...

    Re: Egg question

You just open the tub and turn the lights off put the led mini flashlight up to the eggs and u should see veins...my eggs dimpled in the first 3 to 4 weeks and they were fine...this time they are doing the same....cant keep the humidity over 75...but think of it this way maternal incubation might be worst for the humidity...

Deep breaths, Miles. A few minutes out wont hurt them, just don't drop the tub! You can candle them right in the tub, so no need to lift out individual eggs.

    Re: Egg question

OK I guess I'll candle them tomorrow. I think my humidity is right and the dumpling is slight but maybe I'm over thinking all this. First time jitters I guess. I'll send pics tomorrow. I gotta go to bed.
