I was just checking out some pre-made rack systems, that come with heat preinstalled and I ran across the company Boaphile Plastics, this is how one of there adds for a rack system reads:

"Our best seller the "Blanket" Box rack makes ideal caging for Leopard Geckos and Ball Pythons. This also makes great economical housing for most Colubrids as well as Boas and Pythons up to about 4 1/2' - 5'."

    Than they give the dimensions:

"Each Blanket Box Rack is 36 3/16 " tall, 24 5/8" deep front to back and 17" wide. We have built it as large as possible and still stay within the limits to FedEx this valuable piece of equipment to your door. The #2221 Rubbermaid tub used in this rack is 22 1/4" x 16 1/4" x 5 3/4" tall."

How can they tote a rack system with those tiny dimensions as suitable for boas and pythons up to 5 feet long?

I know I would never put my snakes in something that small, relative to their size. Unfortunately though, I'll bet there are lots of breeders out there who cram as many animals into a room as possible who would find such a rack quite suitable.

Fortunately for the balls, they tend to pick a favorite spot and curl up there anyway. I don't think that's enough space for a 5' ball, but I think a ball would do better in there than an etb, for example, or a cali king.

Because when it comes to proper husbandry, that typically doesn't apply to racks. Go to most facilities that use rubbermaids and what you'll find is rubbermaid containers barely suitable for even corns.

Racks can be wonderful if done right, but as you can see they typically aren't done right. The less space a cage uses the more cages you can have. Which means you have more animals, and in turn means you have more to breed and make cash. Sad sometimes.

    I agree John,
I have found many "rack systems" that just aren't correctly outfitted for the herps in them. Sometimes I am sure it can be done correctly, but many times I have seen them way to cramped.

I've kept close to 5ft corns in such boxes (24” X 14”) but a 5ft boa constrictor would be a much larger animal.

I just bought a bunch of tubs at Sam's club that I really like. Sean of BallPythonMorphs.com posted about them on the RDR forum. I don't have a membership so I went SamsClub.com and on the right hand side is a link for "Motel, Hotel, and Bed and Breakfast Event" and at the bottom of that page is a 1 day pass you can print (but it's only good through March 9th). Anyway, this tub is tapered pretty good but the bottom is about 18 1/2" by 33" and the top is bigger yet. They look huge compared to any other tub I’ve seen. It's only about 5 1/2" tall so I'm not sure about maternal incubation with large females but I think it will be fine otherwise for most adult ball pythons. I'm thinking they may prefer low ceilings for security anyway based on living in holes in the wild and being so shy.

With tax and upcharge (+10% using the one day pass for non members) they where a little over $7 each and they are sold in 3 packs since Sam's doesn't sell one of anything.

I'm going to build one of those hollow core door racks so it's doesn't weigh too much given the large dimensions.

Ill be building sort of a mini rack system the end of march, what I mean by mini is it will be a three drawer system but the bins Ill be using will measure 39 1/2 X 20 1/4 X 7. Next year Ill build another 3 drawer system and stack it on top.

I dont think I can go much bigger, do you think these will be sufficient to for Plissken as an adult, as well as a spotted python and either a hog island boa or solomon island boa?
