    Feeding love in a rack

I have just switched over to a rack. Now my first ball has been off feed through either and is starting to look interested in food again but hasn't yet. Her weight is good etc. now I just got two more a week ago.

I attempted feeding last night but nobody ate. Is there a trick to feeding in a rack? I found the rats end up running over the snake and scaring it into a ball. The breeder I bought from feeds live. So I doing the same. My first girl shows no interest in F/T.

Well, you could start with smaller rats. How large are your snakes?

Give it a hide and pre-scent by leaving the food near the cage for a while before you drop it in. The snake will go in the hide and just poke its nose out. When the food decides it's a good idea to go into the hide, it will meet the gate keeper.

My smaller snakes do this. The older ones move to the front of the tub and start sniffing at the ventilation holes - they know what's coming!

I do leave the rats out for an hour or two before feeding. I am using a hide for my original one. The new ones weren't using hides at the breeders but I am giving them hides as of today. More traffic in my living room than the breeders.

I just find the rats charge right in and scare the crap out of the snakes. I am guessing if they were hungry though they would act scared and instead nail it.

Just noticed my typo in the title. Stupid phone. I should no better and proof read. Too lazy.

Sorry my two females are 815g and 950g. My male is 1300g. I tried getting 60g rats for the girls and 110g rat for my boy.

Now the two new ones may be still acclimating I guess. I read some people here feed right away and their new snakes take it. I never seem to have that kind of luck.

    Hey Jim,

Why don't you toss in a pup. I know it's tiny, but you can leave it in there overnight without an issue. It may be just enough to get them going. Then, once they eat the pup, which may hapen quickly, toss in a weaned. Thennext week, start with the weaned, then toss in a small. It's worked for me in the past, maybe it'll work for you too.

Re: Feeding love in a rack

I've never done anything special, grab rat from tub, put rat in snake tub, wait, if taken walk away, if not watch tv for 15 mins then remove. Repeat as needed. None of my girls in the rack have hides I just lay the news paper intertwined an they hide in that

How long have they been in the new rack? Is it in a new place in the house? Temps? I would give them a little bit longer to get adjusted to the new rack...maybe another week or so....
