    Too Hot?

    Hey Guys!
I just got my first ball python ever last week. I did my research before I got him but I still feel that I have learned a lot since getting him, even though it's only been a week. Anyway, we are having a heat wave where I live right now. It was 90 degrees Fahrenheit today, and it's still pretty hot at night. My snake's cage has a heat lamp and a heat pad, but I haven't really used the heat lamp at all since the heat pad seems to suffice in this weather. I was just wondering if ball pythons can get too hot in the summer? Right now his UTH is turned off since the hot side of his tank is reading 88 degrees and the cool side is 84. I don't want him to get sick or feel stressed. Is there something I can do to cool him off if he does get too hot, or will he be okay? Also did I do the wrong thing by turning the UTH off? I've been keeping the humidity in his tank at around 60 percent.
Another question: What do you guys recommend for bedding? Right now I have Aspen snake bedding in his tank and one of his hides has terrarium moss with some water misted onto it for humidity in case he is feeling too dry (this is in addition to his water dish). I just feel like I'm messing up on a lot of stuff and I don't want my snake to suffer because of my potential mistakes. Thanks in advance.

Uth unregulated can burn a snake pretty bad, you wanna get a thermostat. Amazon as one that's cheaper and works good, its the hydrofarm if I member right.

If the uth is not being regulated by a tstat leave it off. I recommend buying the best tstat you can afford. I am a huge supporter of the Herpstats. If you can afford one get it.

It sounds like the temp in the tank is going to be alright. But yes a snake can over heat. Try getting a fan in the room. Do not direct it to the cage just have it moving the air.

As for substrate I like cypress mulch. It holds moisture pretty well and i think it displays nice.

as stated, you do need a thermostat to regulate that UTH.
surface temps on the hot side can be between 88-95 degrees, are you measuring surface or air temps?
