    slight kink in tail?

Dante seems to have a kink in his tail, can you see it? It didn't stand out to me until I snapped this about a week after I bought him. I lifted his hide to double check that the mouse he dragged in there was in fact gone. He was laying kind of funny while he digested. I'm not that concerned, since he has full strength and mobility in his tail. Is this a genetic thing that can cause problems either for him or his offspring? I hope the little bugger isn't inbred- I'd like to think my first animal is a nice normal with good genes if i ever do breed.

Is the kink always there or was it just there in the photo? Let him crawl through your hand and feel for anything abnormal. I'm no expert but I happen to have a caramel glow and caramels can have some issues with kinking so I've done a lot of reading on the matter. For them, yes it can be genetic. I'm not really sure though about normals? I would assume that any kind of deformity can be passed down to their offspring if it wasn't from an injury.

    I wouldn't breed him.

You don't know if it's genetic or if it simply was an injury.

Since he was crammed into his hide, I'm not sure you can even say that he has a kink (at leat, I'm not seeing it in that picture). As Froggy said, get him out and feel along his spine as he crawls through your hands. Unfortunately, if he does have a kink, there's no way to know whether the deformity will pass to offspring or if it was from an incubation spike.

    Re: slight kink in tail?

Echoing what others have said, it might not be a true kink. A true kink is there regardless of positioning, like if you've ever had a cat whose tail was broken in a sliding glass door accident.

Further, I wouldn't recommend breeding a normal male at all unless you're trying to prove out a dinker project. Assuming you end up breeding, shell out $100 or probably less these days for a male pastel or a male spider to put with whatever female you end up with, it'll make your project babies easier to sell or rehome. If you acquire a female but you don't want any more than two snakes, you really shouldn't breed at all, because you never know how quickly if at all you'll be able to sell the babies.

I'm feeling completely reassured- I let checked his tail out when he was stretched out lengthwise and it seems fine, he just has a prominent spine that looks that way when he's not laying totally flat. phew
