Story of a rescued BP.
Hey there BP-goers.
A bit of backstory: Northwest of my house is a chaotic shelter-like pet store called Pet Stop. Almost all of the animals there are drop-offs from owners who no longer desired to care for them. Among the chaos that was open rabbit cages, guinea pig cages, cages with kittens that had skin conditions and sick birds was a ball python.
The poor little guy in question was in a cage that was:
1. Much too small. Curled in a ball, there was only about 5 inches of room for him to either tighten or loosen his curled up position.
2. Not being provided any heat or humidity
3. Not being provided any water source for either soaking or drinking
Somehow, despite being surrounded by bacteria-infested animals and listening to barking dogs throughout the day, he still was in healthy enough condition to be eating medium-sized rats every 12 days.
The sad part is, he does have a bit of an R.I. I discovered this when I was setting up his cage, I heard small squeaks and wheezes coming from him whenever he huffed at me. So, being the responsible and anxiety-riddled person that I am, I immediately scheduled an appointment with the veterinarian down the road from me for Wednesday afternoon.
Otherwise, he's not lethargic at all. He's pretty alert and active and had been exploring his enclosure (and trying to find a way out of it) for a good hour now.
So, say hello to Olly!
