Both. The naturally decreasing light and cooling of temps that occurs in the fall prompts their hormones to get in gear, so to speak. A healthy animal can be artificially cooled and successfully bred nearly any time of the year. However, they are pretty cyclical and a boa that was cooled and bred in the fall won't likely be ready to do so again until the following fall. There are exceptions to every rule though, lol.
