Gorilla cage in progress

So awhile back I found a cage on kijiji for $200.

It's 6' long, 4' high and almost 3' wide.



Picking it up was fun. It weighed over 150lbs and it was in the guys basement:



Brought it home:



My dads awesome and has helped me completely revamp the cage as I'm useless at handiwork.



The guy had heat bulbs inside covered in hardware mesh run on timers :o

Was not okay with that. Ripped it all out. Bought a huge RHP and mounted to the top. Cut a whole in the bottom of the wood, laid plexi over, and attached heat underneath which will be regulated.

Guy also didn't seal the inside of the cage. He used flex seal and sprayed the bottom. Not okay.

Went out and lined the walls and floor with Lino


As you can see in other pictures, it was a hideous green. Shocking what paint can do:


Finally, mounted drift wood:


All that's left is using aquarium silicone to seal the edges of Lino, adding plants and hooking it all up.

I WAS going to put my male BCI on it, but then I adopted an adult BCI female. She's 7' and this will be her new home.

Luckily I found an awesome PVC cage for my boy with branches. He loves to climb so hes enjoying it.

Erm, not sure about labor. My dad did it fairly quickly though.

Approx cost of things:
Lino: $200
Heat: $300
Paint: free. Had leftovers from my room
Plexi: $65

It's been expensive but it's so much better looking, and it was a steal. He included all the driftwood, fake plants and extra bulbs for lighting.

I'd have hit up the local flooring store for leftover lino for cheap or free myself. They always have leftover bits that they have to throw away(same with carpet bits).

It's great that your dad is so handy. Make sure you learn everything about it from him.

I got the floor section of Lino from habitat for humanity, so it was fairly cheap. They didnt have much of a selection though, so I went looking for the nice stone-like back piece.

It was only like 1.30 per square ft which was the cheapest I was able to find. And it was at the floor store that I found it.

I like the linoleum idea.
I have been planning on building a display cage or 4.
I had been planning on using flagstone and tiling but this would cut the weight way down. And, it has the benefit of being easy to change.
