When should I start to worry?

Okay, so both of my BPs are currently off food. My male pastel weighs 1250 grams, and has eaten maybe one rat every 6 weeks for the last 4 months. (I offer once a week) He has lost almost no weight, and I think it is a breeding season thing. My female bee weighs 780 grams, has been off for 2 months with no takes whatsoever, although she hasn't lost weight. Both of these snakes had been pounding F/T every week without fail, and it gets me worried, especially when I have no real access to live. My guess for these fasts is breeding season for the male, and the around 1000 gram "wall" for the female. Their temps have not changed, they have the same setups as when they drilled food, they just aren't anymore. I would really love some input on the issue, as it really is starting to worry me.

    Thanks,

No need to worry. BPs will be BPs. As long as they aren't losing weight and everything else is good they'll eat when they want to. The male is very normal and exactly like my two.

Re: When should I start to worry?

I'm right there with you. I have a girl who's been off food since January. She is 1250grams also and had never refused a meal beforehand. I think if they start to lose a significant amount of weight, I would look for an option to get them some nutrition. From what I gather (from reading other posts/threads) they will start eating again when they are hungry. I keep offering once a week. she'll have to take food again sometime.

I wouldn't worry yet...sounds like normal BP behavior at this point. A few of mine have gone over 6 months.

I'm right there with you my friend. My female pastel is sitting around 850 grams right now and I was really hoping to get her up to breeding size for next season, and she has been off food for about a month. I'm not worried about it, but I really wish she would start eating normal again so I can get her up to size for next season. But this hobby teaches you patience.

I'm glad I'm not the only one haha

When should I start to worry?

My two sub adults eat like champs still, my adults eat when they feel like it lol. I offer live every week. Only time I would ever worry is if they start to lose weight. Bps are weird like that lol that's why I love my carpet she's a disposal unless all blue

This is one reason I really appreciate my boas and king snakes! If the picky BP's don't feel like eating, at least the meal won't be wasted.

There is a notorious "1000 gram wall" where snakes hovering around 800-1200 grams decide they never want to eat again. After they break fast they will probably eat normally for you again.
