Humidity questions.
So I have just switched over to a closed rack system. I only have one ball python now and a second on the way. (Third will be this summer hopefully ) I have a couple minor questions for this setup that is new to me.
1) for those of you who use rack, do you use a hygrometer in every tub? I use a temp gun and check it against a cout of probe thermometers every so often to make sure it's accurate. I see very few hygrometers available, and I use one right now which seems to be accurate enough. Perfect sheds every time. Btw I live in Nothern Ontario Canada. I found some Springfield ones for $3 and felt they were probably a out as good as the useless reptile ones. What do you guys do?
2) This one is shorter. Should I most the tub sides or the aspen substrate or both? I used those cypress and just moistened the substrate and that worked perfectly. Aspen seems to keep the humidity at a more acceptable level and will save me a ton of money here.

Hi there!
1) No, I do not use hygrometers. I keep the water bowl in the rack and I have not had an issue with sheds ever. I also use paper towels.
2) Depending on what the humidity is, I'm not sure you need to mist at all. If it is too dry, you can just mist the sides. If you over mist (too high of humidity), it could be bad for the pythons (such as scale rot).
As for substrate, cypress and aspen work just fine, pick whichever you prefer

0.1 Cinnamon Mystic

0.1 Lemonblast

I already have one hygrometer. I figured I could pick up one more and just rotate them through the rack. If seems to hold pretty well but dropped when I had ceiling fans running to cool off our living room. I just like knowing what it is but now that I am getting more snakes I am thinking that is a ton of money on instruments that seem poor at best. I like my to gun because it seems to be within 1-2 degrees accurate. Every time I look at hygrometers on the shelf they all ready different RH and that doesn't build confidence.
I know that amazon has some but after shipping, duty, brokerage fees it doesn't make it very cost effective.
