Oil Filled Radiator Heaters & T-stats

I'm not sure if this belongs in this section but it deals with BP husbandry, so moderators, if it is in the wrong section please move it the appropriate section. I am currently using an oil filled radiator heater without a t-stat to heat my snake room & manually making temp adjustments to keep the room a constant temp. I was wondering if I could purchase a pre-wired Ranco t-stat such as this one http://www.etcsupply.com/ranco-etc14...ler-p-193.html & simply plug my heater in to it?

I have 2 of these and use them on my oil filled heaters. Very happy with them.

You can even do a night time drop if you like.
You just have to do some playing around to get it set right. Depending if you have airflow, where your plug is in relation to the heater etc.

I'm glad I found them. Saved me a lot of trouble so far.

I use the Ranco on my oil-filled radiator heater, and it is never more than a degree off. Since this heater runs when I'm not home, I'll spend the $129.99 to rest easy. I'm not saying that I know of any issues with the one posted above, but it isn't a chance I'm willing to take.

This is a good point. Saving $100 isn't worth possibly losing $1,000s in animals.

I was thinking along the lines of the room getting too hot but yeah, a house burning down would definitely suck.

Get a heater that has a built in tstat to use as a back up.

They do fail, way too often. Over the years I have thrown away over a half dozen Rancos. In my experience, they last a few years and then start getting error messages and die. Mine always failed in the off position which is good.
