Dumerils...What is the optimum cage size and type? Breeder recommendations?

I presently have two ball pythons and one corn snake and I am planning to get a Dumerils Boa. Many years ago I had a red tail boa that I dearly loved, but he eventually got to be too big for me and I sold him. I do love the personality of boas and after lots of research I decided that either a Dumerils or a Hogg Island would be best for me. I've now decided to get a Dumerils as everyone seems to agree they generally have a very sweet temperament if handled properly, and that is important to me. Also, they mature to a manageable size. I want a male because of the smaller size compared with females. Now I am confused about what the best cage is? The more I read about it the more confused I become. What is the optimum size for an adult male Dumerils? I've got plenty of room in my house, so I am happy to buy whatever is the most appropriate size. Most of the experienced Dumerils owners I've spoken to say that 4 x 2 x 2 feet would be ideal for a male. But what TYPE (brand) of cage is best? There are quite a few varieties out there, and I can't figure out what to get. Advice would be greatly appreciated. I would also like recommendations for reputable breeders who have Dumerils.

4x2 is standard. Nearly any brand as long as you can afford it. Boaphile is a popular brand (all one piece of molded PVC) but they are more expensive than say, Animal Plastics.

For me, the difference in quality is negligable and the cost of Animal Plastics is nearly half shipped versua Boaphile's same size cage.

Animal Plastics would be their T8 model cage.

I cant help ya with breeders. Big Apple Herp, LLLReptiles are two well known boa breeders.

Yeah a 4x2 would be good for a male. For my female I plan on getting a 6x2 cause I just have a feeling she's gonna be a big ole girl when she's all grown up

After seeing all the answers I have over time, it seems like you need a viv that is 2ft per every 4 feet the snake is. I don't know if that is coincidence or not, but I think that's a good way to tell what size you need if not lol.

i have my female in a 4x2x1 tank animal plastics t8 tank. i do have stuff for her to climb in there and she doesnt so i wouldnt be to concerned about going higher than 12 inches. Also temperment with these guys is amazing. I let my 2 year old neice handle her all the time. she is puppy dog tame but has a stong feeding responce now. I tell my neice and watch her to make sure she doesnt hurt the snake by gripping to tight or anything. once and a while she will pintch the skin and pull. my dums doesnt even move. she can grab her head and she doesnt flintch. I love my dums. she is about 450g and about 33 inches maybe a tad larger right now. good choice with the dums.

My girl is in a AP T-10 (4'x2'x18"). The reason why I chose the T-10 over the T-8 is it has a larger litter dam. Also, the 2' height is just empty space you'll have to heat. It's just not necessary with a Dumerils in my opinion.

t10 is only 15 inches tall and has the same litter dam as the t8. are you sure you have a t10?

I would not recommend buying from big retail chains like these ones, as they often do not breed their own animals, and I have heard some horror stories about these and similar sellers on the boi. I would recommend reputable breeders like Dave Colling, Jeremy Stone, Brian Gundy, Brian Barczyk, Bob Clark, Tim koppenhofer. You can also find great breeders on faunaclassifieds and kingsnake.com, just give them a quick search on the boi to check if they are reputable. That's just about all I have to add, besides that you will LOVE boas! My little guy is quickly overtaking my BPs as my favorite snake!
