I was wondering what models people are using and if some are better then others for a ball python enclosure.

here are the models I am looking at if someone has one let me know the pros and cons. Going to get one tomorrow just have to figure out which one.

Most everybody uses the Acu-rite 00891. It has a wired probe and gives all the needed information you will want. I have several and have been happy with all of them.

Remember that the body of the device measures the humidity, not the probe sensor. Some times people don't realize that.

    Re: acu-rite

I didn't know about the body measuring humidity. So do you mount it inside the enclosure then?

I was thinking of pairing one of these in each enclosure with a cheaper digital on the other side. Cheaper one on the cool side.

    Thanks

Yes it goes inside. Usually the body is mounted to the back cage wall and the sensor probe is mounted to the floor over the hotspot. This way the unit gives you the surface temp of your hotspot, the ambient temp, and the cage humidity level.

    I use one per cage.

    Re: acu-rite

Hey, just an option that has worked well for me. I have an Accurite that has a remote sensor. No cords involved. I have the other type as well. I went cordless because a know my boa is going to move more stuff around than the Royal. The remote version has some overkill. There is a clock and a the day, date, and moon phase,, yeah moon phase. But Its great for watching the time when I'm staring at the cage all day LOL!. I had the probed type and the remote model side by side and have 2 of each kind. They were all reading the same temp or within a degree. I think they are fairly spot on.

I use a Herpstat in both cages so when it says it's at a certain temp and the thermometers are within a degree or 2 I'm satisfied.

Its a nice option whether you are using floor heat or a RHP.

I have one unit that has three remote sensors. I put one in each of my large cages and can check the temps and humidity from anywhere that I bring the unit control which gives me its temp too so I can monitor my temps in my home.

Though it doesn't give surface temps it is nice to monitor the ambient temps from anywhere.

I still have the probe model too. Double redundant.
