    Just unfortunate timing?

    Perfectly normal.. You just don't know what sausage butt looks like yet.. Lol!! Never handle a snake with sausage butt. You'll eventually be able to tell if they have to go by how fat the last 1/4 of its body is up to the vent. When you see this don't handle until it goes. Or give it a quick soak in tepid water and it will go. I have a large aquarium fish net on hand if I put one in the tub in a bit of water to scoop out the mess if it goes. Then a spray bottle of disinfectant cleaner for the tub afterwards.

    It may have come out so fast because your snake is new. Possibly a bit unnerved by being handled so it forced it out quickly.
