    Excited, but finishing touches?

! We are super excited to be going to a show this weekend and hopefully coming home with some beautiful balls! This week we have been doing the final touches on everything and it looks great! We have a CB70 Series rack (7 tall) from AP and our space heater in the room (it's still randomly cold in Iowa). We keep checking our temps and can't seem to get them "perfect." We figure we would post them here and see what everyone has to say.

They are listed top rack to bottom and hot spot then ambient.

    7:23pm
    92.1 & 83.4
    90.8 & 83.6
    90.5 & 83.6
    92.1 & 83.4
    91.3 & 82.5
    91.3 & 80.9
    88.9 & 79.9

    9:40pm
    89.3 & 81.8
    88.9 & 82.5
    89.6 & 82.3
    88.9 & 82.1
    88.9 & 80.9
    87.3 & 79.1
    85.6 & 77.8

    5:45am
    90.3 & 84.1
    91.1 & 84.1
    90.1 & 83.8
    91.8 & 83.5
    91.7 & 82.5
    89.3 & 81.0
    88.6 & 79.1

We are using an IR gun to check temps and oursubstrate is newspaper. Our humidity is keeping at 50 - 55%. Are these numbers ok? Should we aim for more perfect ones? If so, ideas on how to get there? We've messed with dropping and raising both ambient temps and heat tape (which is what you are seeing between times) and we've learned that if we drop ambient a 1 degree our hotspot also lowers some but if we have that degree back, the temps at 5:45 am is what you get.

The first comment is there is no way to check ambient temps with an ir gun. They can only read surface temps.

I would guess that you have unstable room temps? Meaning the air temps in the room are changing during the day and night. It is way easier to manage if the room is constant they you can work to balance the rack.

The temps if they are hot spot and cool surface are ok but a bit more variable than I like. If ambient is being measured with a probe then it is ok still I like control and stablility.

The different times are fluctuating because we changed the space heater degree to see if we could get more desirable temps. And I'm not sure why I said ambient when I meant cool side temps I just rechecked them with NO change to either the space heater and heat tape since last night and they are as follows

    8:25am
    90.0 & 84.8
    92.6 & 84.9
    91.9 & 84.8
    92.1 & 84.3
    89.4 & 83.2
    87.2 & 81.6
    87.3 & 79.3

Personally, I'd drop the ambient temps 2 degrees, even if that means the hot spot drops equally. I like my ambients 78-82deg when using a hot spot. 84deg is getting a little warm as a "cool" end.

The temp fluctuations could just be due to the thermostat running at different power levels each time you check the temps too. On/off types will fluctuate more than proportional types however, they all fluctuate to some degree.

The temps aren't too bad IMO but I like my cool side to be in the high 70's/low 80's too. The hot side temps in the high 80's/low 90's are good though.
