Is a 60 watt day bulb too much when being ran for 8 hours a day?

I have a 24x18x12 enclosure with a heating pad under the hide box in one corner. A 25 watt night light runs 16 hours a day (10 pm 2pm) over the box, and alternates with a 60 watt day bulb at the opposite end of the tank over the water rock. My temperatures remain ideal, which isnt the problem. Is the light too much on the snake? as in stress?

If your temps/humidity are good 24/7 and your snake has an acceptable photo period (day/night cycle) then you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The actual wattage is irrelevant. What matters is the amount of heat that comes from it, and the amount of humidity it sucks away.

I prefer the red or moonlight bulbs which are good for 24 hrs a day without disturbing your snake.

alright good. during the day, the digital thermometer in my snakes hot spot reads 88-90 degrees and the cold spot is about 80. At night, each of these temperatures decrease by about 5 degrees each. humidity stays about 45.

Should i use my higher wattage red nightime bulb instead of the lower wattage moonlight one to eliminate the temperature drop?

I would if I were you just to try to cut out as much fluctuating in temos as possible. Also the cool spot fluctuating just a few degrees is ok as ling as its not below 75 but id rathere the hot spot not fluctuate at all.

Re: Is a 60 watt day bulb too much when being ran for 8 hours a day?

It's been my experience that red bulbs put out more heat than blue(moonlight) bulbs. I have one cage heated by the infrared unless it gets very warm then I have to switch to the blue. Both bulbs are 75watt but there is a considerable difference in heat output. You just have to experiment to find what's right for you.
