Mice to ASFs

I absolutely hated breeding them. I've spoke with a few other people in the area and they all stopped breeding for the same reason. They waste food, they chew out of everything, they are dirty, and evil. They also smell more than rats. Once they get loose they are all over your house and chew EVERYTHING! I found one in my kitchen drawer chewing up all my utensils! ASFs are illegal to own in many states for a reason, they are terrible creatures.

I have one colony that chews through their food, but the rest of them are doing just fine! They barely smell, don't really seem all that dirty.. and I've only had one chew out which was my error.

They are kinda evil though, but I think they are just protecting their family. I get it. They aren't for everyone.

It seems like it's half and half, some think they smell and are dirty, others not so much. I couldn't stand them. I had to clean their tubs twice as often as the rats and they went through food like mad. Yeah, I won't have them again. Plus they are like crack to my cat. He ate 32 weanlings in one night because he got into my snake/rat room!

That is why I have them in rodent breeding cages. It's pretty much impossible to chew out of it. As wasting food goes, I just toss a certain amount of food in their tubs and not on the food hopper each day to minimize the amount of food they waste.
