Tub temps not getting hot enough with Herpstat 2 and Zoo-Med UTHs?

They are adjustable so you can raise it or lower it to the needed height. Having it adjusted to provide the correct temp my tub lids do not get to hot.

You guys are the best...this is the most helpful forum! So when you say I need a stand, I would assume then I would place my heatlamp w/bulb on a stand situated 6-8" directly over the tub lid? It would penetrate the lid enough to heat the ambient temps, and your lid doesn't get too hot?

You may have to play around a little with the height of the heat lamp from the tub. But yes it will heat the tub lid which in turn will heat air temp of your tub.

Do you have a recommendation for dome size and bulb wattage that works for you?

I was also thinking as a last resort to cut a small square in the lid (maybe 2.5" x 2.5") and place mesh between in, and then place a heat dome with a dimmer directly over that...crank the bulb down so it's very dim, and that might be adequate, but then it would also let light in...so I like you guy's idea better.

I have a deep dome with I think a sixty watt bulb but I keep it pretty high to flood the heat out over two tubs.

Your idea will work fine but you will loose a good bit a humidity. Just be sure to mist.

I think I've got it! I really would prefer not to have a light on 24/7 to regulate ambient temps (even though it's not a big deal), so I'm going to cut that hole out in the lid and adhere some high quality mesh over it...then I'm going to get a deep dome with a low wattage (40-60 w) CHE, and either remove the extra supplemental UTH I have affixed to the cool end and hook the CHE up to my Herpstat, or just buy a dome with a built in dimmer. If the mesh gets too hot I'll set the CHE up on a stand. Hope this works!

A CHE takes a long time to heat up and cool down. Make sure you use the proportional mode on the tstat.

Also aCHE calls for certain types of fixtures. Make sure you get the recommended style. Failing to do so will cause the CHE to burn up and you will waste your money. I have one going on 11 months of constant use.

I really would not suggest placing the fixture directly on the tub. I would find some way to suspend it our give it a stand off so it never touches any plastic.

Will do - will definitely use the T-stat on proportional mode as well, oh knowledgable one. What kind of fixture are you using? I was going to use a deep dome with a ceramic fixture? From reading around that's what a lot of people are using...?

EDIT: Or a wire cage clamp lamp I guess.
