Mice to ASFs
So, I've heard a lot of hype about switching BPs to rats as soon as possible, because there's the possibility that they'll refuse them later on, if they're used to having mice...but has anybody ever had trouble switching from mice to ASFs? I wanted to switch her over to ASFs because I heard they're like crack for them, but there's only one place in town that sells them and they're still a bit too big of a meal for her at the moment. She usually eats mice, but she has also had a few rats. She seemingly eats whatever I put in front of her, really. Just curious if anybody has had trouble with their BP actually refusing an ASF.

If she eats whatever you put in front of her, I would be very surprised if she wouldn't eat an ASF.
A picky eater is a picky eater, it has little to do with they type of feeder. More to do with the snake.

Re: Mice to ASFs
Some of mine snub ASF's. Even my bee, who is an eating machine. She won't touch them.
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

Keep in mind they aren't a cure all. Everything thinks they will turn your snakes into eating machines, but they really don't. Sure some bps really like them, but no more than they like mice IMO. I used to raise/feed ASFs and I had several bps that refused to eat them. I also had friends with tough feeders that tried ASFs and their snakes still refused. Like you said yourself, they are hard to find. You don't want to depend on a rodent that is hard to find. ASF breeders come and go all the time, they are terrible animals to breed.
Also, from my experience they rarely get "stuck" on a certain rodent. I only have one mouser that will not eat anything else, the rest will switch between rats/mice and most will take ASFs as well.

I absolutely hated breeding them. I've spoke with a few other people in the area and they all stopped breeding for the same reason. They waste food, they chew out of everything, they are dirty, and evil. They also smell more than rats. Once they get loose they are all over your house and chew EVERYTHING! I found one in my kitchen drawer chewing up all my utensils! ASFs are illegal to own in many states for a reason, they are terrible creatures.

I would never recommend mice OR ASF rats. There is a reason why you can only find them at one place in your area. Get normal rats, please. You will thank me later.

ASF's for snakes
Hi I feed my snakes all three, ASF's are the easiest lest smelly of all of them. Mine are not as tame as Bobbafet's but I pick mine up by the tale and do not use tongs as they hurt and make the little buggers crazy. 2 of snakes are hooked on ASF's they are snakes we got from other people. But I have one snake that is hooked on light colored rats. I would stick to what is plentiful in the area or raise your own. I have had babies that are hard to start eat ASF's then change over to rats.
