    Infrared Thermometer Temps weird ?

Hey Guys. Just wondering what the normal temps you're taking with a temp gun for the top of your aspen bedding is.

I'm using the pro exotics pe 2 at .95 Emissivity.

I'm getting a reading of about 80 at the top of my bedding and a reading of about 82 at the bottom where the flex watt tape is under the tub.

The temp probe in my cage reads 90 and the thermostat controlling the flex watt is set to 95 as it should be.

Is the reason my gun is giving me a -10 degrees difference because of the material the tub is made of, reflecting the laser? That still wouldn't explain the aspen readings I don't think.

The gun is new out of the packaging with factory plastic wrapped batteries.

Can anyone provide me with some insight as to what's going on here?

Is the gunna calibrated correctly? Try shooting it at ice water. Should be about 32degrees. If its reading at like 22 then you know its the gun.

IR guns reflect off of objects that are shiny, plastics, metals and water all will give suspect readings. (cloudy ice Emissivity is around 0.85 a brown paper target would be needed)

What t-stat do you have? Some are highly accurate some not at all. You can use an accurate to check the accuracy of your gun.

I have a guess the gun is reasonably correct, You have aspen in the tub the flexwatt under the tub correct?

Is it attached to the tub or is the tub sitting on it?

    What are the room temps?

My guess is the gun is basically correct and the ambient air temps in conjunction with the substrate is responsible for the heat loss.
