Day 5 of migraine, getting fed up.

I've gotten migraines in the past, even been to the ER for them. I'm frustrated because a) no one believes that I actually get them because I've never been referred to a neurologist. And b) they've never lasted this long before, three days tops. I'm now on Day 5 and getting real sick of it. I get them predominantly left-side. Anyone else struggle with migraines, have any tips for home relief?

Day 5 of migraine, getting fed up.

My wife gets them pretty bad from time to time. They will usually last a few days. She basically has to be in a dark room with an ice pack for a while, and take the pills they prescribe her. I would diffidently look into getting medicine from a doctor if you haven't already.

Have you tried any dietary supplements? As long as you're not taking any prescription meds it can't hurt to try. Do some research on Butterbur. Or more specifically a product called Petadolex. It's pricey but I know people who swear by it.

Re: Day 5 of migraine, getting fed up.

I hate migraines.. I suffer from them almost daily.. my eyes are also espcially sensitive to light, I habe to wear sunglasses just to go out when its sunny let alone drive. The best advice I can give is to sleeo through them which is hard, I usually take excefexcedrin migraine then a nap and they're gone. For the really bad obes I pull out midrin I might have spelled it wrong but after being on 8 medixations for migraines I will always recconend it. You'll have to see a doctor to get ir but it willknock the migraine out within 3-5 minutes.

It really sucks becausd with migraines you almost always need to see a doctor whixh in todays economy isbt easy...

I'm also sorrt my phone wont correct my miss spelling, mt touch scteen ia going out.

Thats the thing, I'm on antidepressants and I'm wondering if that's part of the trigger. I have a med check on Wednesday, so I plan on mentioning it and maybe trying to squeeze a neuro referral from her. It makes me just a little nervous that they're almost ALWAYS left-side, because as I understand it a normal migraine disorder switches sides with each episode. Sticking consistently on one side is the signal of a bigger problem, as the urban legend goes.

Day 5 of migraine, getting fed up.

In my opinion, if you truly have a migraine, you would not be posting or be anywhere near a computer or phone screen. I've had my share of migraines, and when I get them I need to be in a dark, silent room with blankets over my face, cold cloth, and a puke bucket beside me.

Who knows though, I could be wrong or maybe mine are just worse.

It is IMPOSSIBLE for me to move or even do anything when I get them and 100% of the time they end in vomit.

Try drinking your weight in water in a day (not actually, but literally drink as much as possible) and see if it subsides even a little bit.

I am on here with a migraine right now, and frequently use the computer AFTER I medicate.
I can't look at screens when I have a migraine until my medications take effect, then I'm ok with it, but a little groggy from the meds.
I take triptans, sumatriptan aka imitrex is my savior when it comes to migraines.
I received an 18 month supply of lead working in a foundry that messed up my nervous system real good, nothing I have tried even comes close to relieving my pain except triptans.

After 20 years of 3 to 4 migraines a month on average with some months reaching as high as 20 migraine days, I totally understand

Re: Day 5 of migraine, getting fed up.

Migraines are the worst. I agree, if you had a migraine there is no way you would be posting. Migraines find me in the dark and puking. I absolutely cannot function, or stand noise, or light of any sort. I usually take 3 Advil and chug a Coke when I feel them coming. Sometimes if I catch it fast enough that takes the edge off, sometimes not. I forget what it was about the caffeine my doctor said. I usually am in bed in the dark, and try to sleep through it. That's about all I can do. Migraines suck. I had never had one before I had my daughter and my epidural, I have heard that having an epidural can do that. Not sure how much truth there is to that, or if I just started getting them. But I have noticed its usually women who get them. Stress also can be a trigger. Good luck with it, they are miserable. I would definitely talk to a doctor about it. I have never had one last that long. Only recently have they been lingering into the next day.
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

I should add mine last an average of 2-3 days and the severity changes constantly.
There are days I can go most of the day with a migraine and not medicate, and there are days I get up knowing I have to medicate right away due to migraining in my sleep for hours or all night.

The one descriptor the op gave makes me believe it is a migraine ...

    "I get them predominantly left-side"

headaches are not usually associated with a left side or right side, migraines are.
I get mine on both sides but predominantly left side also.
My right side migraines tend to be a lot more severe.
