Sticking thermos and hygros to a tank?
Hey, y'all. I've been having an issue keeping my thermometers and hygrometers attached to my tanks. I've tried a couple of Scotch products, mounting putty and those little double-sided sticky squares, but my BPs pull them down immediately. Anyone have any ideas for something I can use that'll keep them in place without being impossible to remove if necessary?

First off no tape or tape like products should ever be used inside of a tank.
Second it sounds like you are using the dial type thermometers and hygrometers. These are junk and don't read temperatures/humidity in the right places.
You should just replace them with one of these:

They only cost $12 at Walmart and measure 2 temperatures and humidity. Simply place the probe on the hot side, and the unit itself on the cool side of the cage.
What are you using to heat the cage?

Suction cups or hot glue. I would never put anything sticky where a snake can access it. Not worth the risk.

Just an undertank right now. It's pretty warm here so I don't even need to turn that on most of the time. I've got the simple analog thermometers and hygrometers in both tanks, but the one you posted looks a lot more elegant of a solution. I'll look into it.

If you are using a under tank heater the thermometers you have now aren't doing you any good whatsoever. Under tank heaters only increase surface temperatures and not air temperatures. Because of this you need a probed thermometer like the one I pictured above so you can measure surface temperatures.
Where do you live that you don't need to supplement heat to achieve proper temperatures? (90 F hot side, 80 F cool side)
Do you have a thermostat for your under tank heater? If not you need to get one. The thread I linked to above has recommendations in every price range. Without a thermostat to regulate a under tank heater they can and will get hot enough to severly burn your snake. (I've measured them at 130 F +)
What substrate are you using? How thick of a layer do you have?

Just to clarify, Serpent Merchant, the unit itself should go inside the tank as well, but on the cool side?

Hmmm... wonder if they'll knock it over. I'll grab a couple and give it a try. Good price.

For my hydrometer I use these with my T8.

The hydrometer can be calibrated using a salt test. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7Ap96SlGZA
I believed it was a 1/2 drill bit I used to placed the magnet within the T8 to mount the hydrometer.

For temps I use: http://bit.ly/VsZZQe

I just got a couple of the Wal-Mart ones. Of course, I had to go to two different stores to find two, but luckily I live in an area that has 13 Wal-Marts in a 10 mile radius from my house. LoL. Thanks for the advice, everyone!
