Can I cut the rat in half?
I accidentally bought rats that were 2x as big as I needed them Dx
I asked for rat pups and he gave me weanlings.
Can I cut the rat in half and feed halves to my BP? I only have 4 rats, so it's not like it'll be going on forever. just for the next month or 2.

I REALLY wanna say yes just to make you try it. But no, i wouldnt try that. You'll have guts everywhere and it will probably just make a huge mess haha.
How much bigger are they? If you post the weights of the rats and your snake we could tel you if it'd be ok to feed them or not.

You can try but its very messy and balls might not take them cut up and bloody. I had to do this this with boas for a study I was helping with where the rats had to weight a certain amount per snake, they didn't have a problem with it though lol. Its very smelly too btw.

Re: Can I cut the rat in half?
I don't know it that's a good idea or if you want to deal with the mess involved. Exposed bone and organs could possibly hurt the snake during wrapping and/or eating. One thing you could try is stretching out the rat and gently squeezing it's midsection a little. That will shift things around inside and make it thinner overall and easier to eat. If it's still too big I would just keep it on ice and buy some more proper sized rodents.

Bad idea not worth trying, unnatural, I wouldn't even think about doing this if I was in your shoe's.
Take it as a loss it happens.

Dang ._.
I'll head down to the store and buy smaller prey then.
Dovah weighs about 150g and the rats weigh about 35-40g.

Re: Can I cut the rat in half?
It would be very messy and unlikely to be eaten that way. I would just keep them in the freezer until your snakes are big enough to eat them whole and start over for this week's meal. Maybe see if the place you purchased them will take them back and give you smaller ones.

That's like 25% of his body weight. He should be able to get them down no problem.
I've fed my 350-400g hypo an 80ish gram f/t rat. She took it down no problem.

Oh, awesome, what a relief!
I was pretty stressed out b/c I my car is broke down right now and I'm relying on my mom to give me rides everywhere, I asked her if we could go the the pet store and she turned around and walked away xD
After these 4 are up, I'll go buy the proper sized food!
They were sold to me live and I killed them myself, I don't think they'll take them back xD
