Like per season? I gotta buddy who breeds one boy to five girls a few different seasons not sure if there is a set number, as long as he's still producing sperm I'd guess he'd be down to do some more work, no dudes ever complained about too much sex

As many females as he can lock with. Just as long as he gets his time in and time out with the girls to rest up. And as long as he doesn't lose too much weight. Some males go off feed as long as they're near scaly ladies. Others never miss a meal. Luck o' the draw. I plan on eventually having 2 males and 4 females. I'm pretty sure that's a safe ratio to ensure lots of locking opportunities throughout the season. So much patience required.

Put 1 male across 10 females last year - Two locks each, he got 5 of them (28 eggs, 1 slug)

He eats right through the breeding season every year, which no-doubt helps his performance

I like a 1:5 ratio because it ensures each of the girls gets a conjugal visit every month.

If you're really good you could breed a male to 10 females. A lot of that would depend on luck with when the girls are nearing ovulation. Some people know how to tell when the female is close to ovulation so well they pair once and get the job done. If you're asking this question, you're probably not at a place where it's safe to breed a male to that many females.

PLEASE give your males time off though. Breeding takes a huge amount of energy and you'll notice the toll it takes if you overbreed. Males are known to die if you do overbreed due to the stress and energy required. Monitor his weight and know when to give a break and when to call it quits for the season.

Re: How many clutches can 1 male sire?

many factors with this question. how big is the male. a very young male on the smaller side. I wouldn't throw him to nearly as many his first year as one that has some nice size to him.

is he on or off feed.

if you breed threw the year you could place him with a lot more females than if they all go at once. having an ultrasound or being able to feel the follicle growth will really help with this.

a good ratio for a decent size male is 5:1 a young male 1 or 2. for someone that new at this.
