creating a sub-forum just for markers

I don't know about you guys, but there's so much new stuff coming out and a lot of them has subtle markers from a normal. and some other morph looks similar to another. When I go on line to find more information about them, there's just bits and pieces of information to puzzle them all together, sometimes there even nothing on them.

So would admin allow a sub-forum just for markers. morphs like gravel, special, mahogany, paint, specter and like gets a lots of confusion for me anyway, and I would presume for quite a few as while.

Maybe if there's enough of us out there interested could you pls let admin know so we can get this sub-forum going.

There's not much info out there about gravels. Breeders seem to be buying visual highways since I'm guessing the breeder can't tell the difference between the gravels and YBs.

You can always contact breeders who are working with these genes such as the mahogany. BHB and Justin Jobylka are 2 I can think of off the top of my head.

There isn't much info on paints other than the fact that it's a co-dom.

Specters don't really look like YBs to be, but I can't say I'll be able to spot one in a tub of light normals .

World of ball pythons really is a great tool if you want to see how these things combo into other morphs .

I agree WOB is a great tool, I use this all the time as well. unfortunately with these subtle morph even with a picture you really don't know what you're looking for. I have seen on some sites where they would make colored circle around a particular markers and explain what you should be seeing, Ex flames of YB.

The breeders would be of great source but I would be reluctant to keep asking, you would need more than a few questions and follow up questions to see what to look for.

Which brings me back to my point, if we can have a compilations of subtle morphs that have consistent markers that would certainly keep us off these breeders back I understand and agree some of the morph you cant tell apart and you need to get it from a super form breeding to be assured.

I am pretty sure the colored circles thing is done on this site in the Morph ID section. Some of the newer morphs may need to be added, but that will have to be by someone with enough knowledge of the morph to do so.

Like jinx said, there are a lot of morphs here, but there are probably plenty that could be added by someone knowledgeable.

Between the Hunter's Guides linked above...and this gallery we set up awhile ago: http://ball-pythons.net/forums/forum...-Python-Morphs ....we have plenty of places that specifically discuss and demonstrate ball python morphs. I don't believe we need to add any additional forums or sub-forums to that topic.

However, adding NEW CONTENT to the links mentioned here would be GREAT. Trouble is, it takes a tremendous amount of work and time...and no one gets paid for any of this.

If someone chooses to take on that task, and volunteer their time and efforts, and has the knowledge and skill to pull it off properly, I'll be THRILLED to add their efforts to what we already have.

Well SNAP! I hadn't looked at those in quite awhile. I thought for sure that we hosted them locally, but they were hosted at NextWorldExotics (the one who put the guide together), and for reasons unknown to me, he has taken his site down.

I don't know if I'll be able to recover those pictures or not, but I'll see what I can do.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again here, if people are using such poor quality yellowbelly's that the gravels look similar, then maybe they should use a line of yb that is a little better quality

The problem with markers on some of incomplete dominant traits is the different lines present themselves differently.
My Haas line specter looks different from other lines I've seen, so giving the markers for specter just doesn't work so well, unless you want to list markers for different lines also.

i consider images that only show one snake to be quite pointless. lighting and color saturation make a huge difference, the difference is so big that normals can look like pastels and pastels can look like normals. When you try to compare subtle morphs based on individual images, instead of comparing the snakes you end up comparing the lighting environment and the skill of the photographer. Comparison shots are much more valuable. I also like pictures that show all hatchlings from a specific clutch, where some babies have a certain morph and others dont.
