I'd be more concerned with the above post about bacteria since a lot of these big Walgreen's humidifier have big tanks that hold a lot of water, so they don't get changed very often.

about the bacteria, i wouldnt worry too much. a few bacteria in water are no problem, and in aquaristics, if the water is too sterile and too clean, the fish can die. You might even buy a starter culture from aquaristics and put a bit in, then you have the correct bacteria in there that will actually remove nitrates and phosphates from the water, and there is no chance for any problematic germs to take over
