    Incubator Temperature sitting high...

I got the proportional thermostat running set to 87... but when i go back after a couple hrs the temp inside the incubator is hovering around 90 at the middle of the fridge and it doesn't move from there... thermostat just stays off and the incubator keeps the temperature....

now my question is do i need to drill some small holes in the top to act as a vent so the hot air escapes and the thermostat works a bit harder but keeps the temps where i want it ... or just drop the temp on the thermostat to 86 and let the incubator be at 89deg.
also i do have a digital thermostat which i have confirmed the matching temps just to make sure.

it's a mini bar fridge... 2 fans top and bottom... and water bottles in the door and bottom of the incubator.... aprox 12 or so.

    input would be great... thanks..

    TIA

I would not drill holes, but adjust the thermostat. With two fans running in such a small space, that could also cause the heat to go up. Those fan motors put out heat as well. All you need to do is move the air around a little. Try using only one fan and see if that helps.

    Re: Incubator Temperature sitting high...

yes i was thinking it could same that it's the fans but im leaning more to the abundance of water bottles and the heat tape after being turned off by the thermostat taking too long to cool down... or the bottles retaining the temp toooo good... would removing 5 or so bottles adjust the temp. how many bottles do most have in a mini fridge..

Too much heat tape is possible, you want the heat tape to work a little to get the correct temperature.
Too many fans for the size of the inc is possible too, if they create any heat as some do.
I'd drop 2 of the fans and see what you have then.

Water bottles don't create heat, they hold the temperature stable.

Water Bottle laying directly on heat tape ?? If Yes that's very bad Idea...

I learned that with my chest cooler incubator..

    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-with-Pictures

They accumulate way too much heat and radiate it back...

I've solved it by lifting it over inch and half above heat tape and blowing air directly on heat tape (sucking air with ambient temp and blowing in on heat tape warming it more gently and evenly)...
