They'll be fine. If you're really concerned boost the heat of your house up a little bit before they turn the power off. I had a similar issue this winter and they were all just fine.

I'm saying use common sense when using the hot hands.
I.E put in a cloth sack and put on one side of the tank. Put them in a concealed cardboard box. A snake is not going to make a B line to them and coil around it. Give them some credit, snakes are not stupid.

Again, use common sense! I only threw the idea out. Build upon it! There are ways to provide heat without it causing increase worry for burns.

If you don't want to worry, go buy a generator! Too Expensive? Then save up for one, for future. A lot less worry for something so simple.

Thanks for all the advice, guys! For whatever reason, the electric company didn't shut off the power...or at least hasn't done so yet. BUT, you guys did give a lot of good information for when something like this does occur. So, thank you for that! I never thought of the little hand warmers. I'll have to go invest in some of those!

If you have time to plan and "invest" in something, order the 40-hr shipping heat packs instead of buying hand warmers. They heat to a more reasonable temperature and last much longer (more benefit and less danger to the snakes).
