That feeling you get when you meet a fellow herper

I don't know about you guys, but I absolutely love it when I meet someone who is just as interesting in reptiles as I am in the strangest places. I always take the city bus back and forth from my classes and today I met this couple who had brought on a petco critter box that had to have 6 or 7 mice in it. We ended up talking for a while until I had to get off. Because it's a hobby not a lot of people understand, I really and truly love it when I meet someone out in the open like that.

Do you guys have any interesting stories of meeting fellow herpers out in the world?

Re: That feeling you get when you meet a fellow herper

Its an awesome feeling. I actually met someone I had talked to on FB quite a bit buying rats from craigslist once, neither of us realized we had talked to one another before until we started talking. I know quite a few locals here now. One thing I've noticed: I can't expect to just spend a short amount of time with a fellow enthusiast, we'll wind up ranting about snakes for hours.

i love to talk herp with other people. It quite rare for me to actually met one in real life but i frequent alot of different forums and discussion group that is totally non-herp related and have met herpers there. The only people that i meet in real life that are close to herpers are people that are interested in snake and reptile but isn't so into it that I would consider a herper (have one snake or a lizard maybe because its "cool"....)

It always cool to meet someone with the same hobby when my hobbies isn't as mainstream as say sports and cars (although i like those too but I don't consider myself a enthusiast in any of that)

I'm also into body modification and tattoo and its always cool to met people that are into that as well, strangely i meet more people in real life that are into tattoo than herps

I lived next door this couple for three years. At my BBQ just before they were moving, the woman's husband let it slip that she had snakes...LOTS of snakes. Isn't that right, Deborah?! And so my addiction began...
