snakes being picky
so i offered a med rat to my boys tonight but they both turned their noses up at it. so i was heating up my mice for my corns and the boys got all excited. so i offered them mice and boom they took the mice. is this normal that they prefer mice to rats????

Re: snakes being picky
I wouldn't go as far to say it's mice over rats, as size. Try going with small rats and see if they take it.

That's totally normal for them to want particular prey, what were they eating before you had them? You may need to get some mouse scent on the rats that you feed.
Feeding mice becomes inconvenient as the snake grows.

happens, but you should try to get them on rats its easier in the long ran. try to scent the rat with your mice next time

the store said they were on rats but they couldn't get them to eat. they just sniffed them and turned their noses up. and yeah feeding that many mice is going to go threw my stock really fast. guess its time to make a new order.
thank you

Ugh..they can't say they're "on rats" when they've never eaten any...
If you want to feed mice that's fine, it won't hurt them. It may even be more convenient if you are already buying several to feed your corn snakes.

Re: snakes being picky
Scenting might be your friend then, heat up the rodents you need, rub the rats on the mice and hang the rats in front of the bp's.

Yeah I get about 100 mice per order so it lasts a while. But they supply all sorts of snake food. Mice, asf, rats, rabbit, chicken, even deer.
Sorry got off track there. But thank you all for the help. I will be trying smaller sized rats and if that doesn't work then scenting them with mice. If all else fails mice will have to do
Thank you thank you thank you
