Thats funny you should mention gatorade dustin...I heard from a friend and python and boa breeder that filling the tub up with about an inch of warm water and mixing in powder gatorade, then soaking your bp in it or any snake for that matter is really good for them. He said they soak up the electrolytes in the gatorade.... anyone know anything about this?

I don't know about Gatorade, but I have used Pedialyte for deydrated snakes. I used it on their drinking water and added a little to their soaking water.

That has to be the wierdest thing I've ever heard of; time to go research it.

When a snake is dehydrated, it is usually a good diea to soak them for a while in lukewarm water in order to allow them to rehydrate.

I don't wanna type alot so I'll just paste what I wrote in a different post:Soaking your snake in warm water for 30-45mins every 5 days is a good practice, shedding or not. I also don't think that a humidity level of 45 is bad at all when not in a shed, 75-80 is good while shedding. In the summer, I soak my snakes in Gatorade every 3-4 weeks just to make sure that they ain't dehydrated. These are my personal practices, I've had exceptional results with them but you may choose to go by the book. BTW, as David mentioned before, PediaLyte works as well.

Once again I definatly agree with Danny..
We use pedialyte here, it's easy to find unflavored and it is fairly inexpensive, thank goodness, because for some reason the last bunch of rescues were very dehydrated, We've also used the same practice with iguanas, monitors and other lizards.
Thanks

Gatorage is basically just flavored Pedialyte.
When you use either for soaking the snakes, do you use it full strength? Or diluted?
I know when I go for a bike ride, full strength just feels too sticky, and I can imagine that it would make the snake pretty sticky, too. I usually mix it to about 50% strength using plain water (thanks to a suggestion from Greg LeMond's book!) and that feels just about right on a ride. I'm wondering if the half strength would be as good or maybe better for the snakes as well, not to mention helping cut the cost of the "treatment".
We do not quit playing because we grow old; we grow old because we quit playing.
