    Lesser vs black pastel lesser...

How can I tell them apart? I know they have deep blacks, but I have seen plenty of deep black normal lessers. Any help?

Lesser black pastels look dramatically different than single gene lessers. They resemble more towards the "Savannah" ball python.

Here is a link to ECRB's lesser black pastel

Re: Lesser vs black pastel lesser...

two things make identification really easy:

    - pictures of the parent snakes, knowledge about the genetics of the parent snakes

    - pictures of the clutch, knowledge about the siblings, maybe other offspring from the same parents.

and if you buy from a reputable breeder, you should be able to request and get that information. this of course works for all genes. if you dont get that data, only buy at a discount price and only pay for what you can see, forget hets or possible hets or genes that are so subtle that you cannot clearly see them.

that being said, black pastel should make a lesser a lot darker, not just a little bit, also it seems to change/reduce the pattern.

They look very different. Color and pattern is what you're looking for.

If you see them together, you will have no issue telling them apart...but your description of the blacks is off a little whether it is a Black Pastel Lesser or a Cinny Lesser...

Looks like a black pastel lesser to me. If you like the price and like him, go for it. Just always be wary with CL ads, make sure you check him over well for mites/mucus and body composition (in other words, make sure he's not starving) he looks to be in good shape from the pics. And definitely make sure to quarantine him from any other reptiles just in case!
