Finally!!!!!!

After about two months with 1 male and three females with no babies, I woke to a squeeking sound and sure enough BABIES!!!! Looks like her sister is gonna pop any day now too.

NICE!!! congrats! I am looking into breeding rats soon too. How are you liking it so far? Pretty simple to do? Also, how often are you cleaning the cages and what not? Any idea on monthly cost to breed them yet? Sorry for all the questions, but its right around the size of colony I want to set up.

Not costing me much. Well I have gone trough a couple maybe three little bags of aspen around eight dollars a piece.
Only because where I get it I can not get a big bag. I was feeding dog food but found it had too much protein, so iI switched to rat food from the pet store, have not gone through a little bag yet. But my she had twelve babies and right now I am feeding two corns and a ball python. Rats are 10.00 each at my pet store, mice are 5.00 each. So 13 babies is 130.00 worth of rat for me. So I probably spent 30.00 in bedding and food so far bt it is well on it's way. I also have another rat about to have babies in a day or so I guess. They are sisters so I am hoping for another good litter. All in all I am happy with the breeding. I also really enjoy the rats, my girlfriends babies them :p on is her pet.

Also I might add I know a couple people in my town with herps so I might be able to sell off any I don't need, or euthanize and freeze.

Oh sorry I forgot about the cleaning, I am keeping all 4 together permanently. Seems to work well with other people so Im gonna try that. I clean Once a week and the smell for me is not bad at all. I used care fresh but found the smell of it turned me every time I went near it, also not very effective in keeping smell down. I am now sing aspen and it is working well for me.
