i think it will just get better with age. it probarbly just takes more practise.
and since the heat pits of BPs are highly effective, there even are blind BPs, born without eyes, that hit the prey item perfectly based on directional infrared sensing alone. that the heat pits are pointed directly at the target, but the eyes look more to the sides and upwards, also indicates which one is more important for hunting and which one is more important to watch out for predators.
based on this, maybe it helps if the food item is warmed up to the right temperature?
